When we think about social media, the first thing that abruptly comes out in our mind is connections with people. ‘Connection’ is a wide term which could be simplified as ‘a relationship in which a person or a thing is associated with something else. Although it connects us with distant people through social media, overall it does more damage to our relations than it builds them. When it comes to the drawbacks of social media, they are infinite like firstly, it indulges us in itself so such an extent that we forget about the people around us.

It is a fact that social media has a role in maintaining our connections to some extent, but on the other hand, its addictive nature is undeniable. It distracts us from what’s happening around and therefore, we start to lose our connections with those around us. Moreover, nowadays social media is all about following celebrities which adds up to its uselessness in building relations.

Secondly, social media allows us to know about our friends’ lives without even talking to them, which prevents us from interacting with them in real life. Whether it’s an update about one’s education, health or just social life it’s known to everyone in the blink of an eye through social media. Consequently, there is no need left to meet the person face to face and talk. 

In a nutshell, I would say that critiquing on social media does hold water, though there are a few significance's of social media in terms of building interactions, the adverse effects outweigh them, as it distracts us from the ones around us and decreases the face-to-face connections we should have. Instead, it proves more to be a source of entertainment and refreshment rather than a source of making connections.
