Climate change as a draw back to Agriculture

Rising temperature in mountainous boroughs of Gilgit Baltistan has provoked the frequency and intensity of natural disasters like degradation of agricultural land and abrupt change in climatic patterns and floods. The increased number of the glacial lake has reached up-to 3000 as of now. This has created sustainable agriculture and boosted up the economic condition of farmers.

With a change in precipitation patterns and catastrophic floods, farming communities are facing difficulties in raising crops. Sudden cloudbursts, flash floods and violent change in temperature in mountain valleys have caused great distress or annoyance among farmers who are finding it hard to cope up with the vagaries these weather events. There is a lot of potential in terms of agronomy and horticultural crops but due to the exploitation of different diseases and insect infestations, the quality of the product is gradually decreasing. In order to increase the quality of produce, there should be proper and environmental friendly disease and insect pest management practices. Above all, there should be a proper marketing system so that the farmers can easily get access to the market.
